Development of The Music Video

The first ever development of the music video was in 1894. It was the first example of the illustrated song called 'The Little Lost Child' this was a still image projected onto screen in front of a wide audience. On the left hand side is a picture of the still image of the 'The Little Lost Child'. This was the first influence in music video in all time, this is where the music video making first took off.

In 1906 was the first time a song was played on UK radio. It was in December 1906 on 24th Christmas eve the first song that was played was called Iio
January 13th 1910 was the first ever music to be
 broadcast over radio.

In 1926 there was a musical short film called 'Arrival of''Talkies' this musical was the first ever sound film of moving pictures. These were musical films, music films were a film with song  which was sung by the characters in the play during the story. The musicals films are full of dancing, narrative and music. An example of the most famous musical was 'Arrival of'Talkies' on the right is a picture of the famous musical.

In 1929 a music video for the song called 'St Louis Blue' by Bessie Smith, but originally written and performed by W.C Song was created in 1914 but the video was created in 1929, the video is in black and white with a women singing in it. The song was written by W.C Handy and the genre is blues. The song was american,it is said to be a fundamental jazz composition and it is till this day. This song was one of the first ever blue songs to be as a pop song. The composition has been performed by many musicians over the years. The version of the song 'St Louis Blue' by Bessie Smith and Louis Smith were put on the Grammies Wall of Fame. Below is the video of Bessie Smiths version of the song.

In 1930 screen songs were introduced there was series of cartoon films where the lyrics came across the screen with a bouncy ball bouncing on top of them to encourage the audiences to sing along with the song. These were called cartoon screen songs. Picture taking from the video of the Mariutch of the lyrics on the screen is to the right. Below is a video of an example of a video I found on you tube from the 1930's cartoon film with bouncing ball called Mariutch by Max Fleischer.

In 1956 the popularity increase of music had an impact on the television industry this was good thing for the music industry and also the television industry because it boosted television stars and music stars popularity to fame.

In 1964 The Beatles made a music video with fast moving picture to the song "A Hard Days Night" this really started the music history off as it is was the start to the making the music video much better.

In 1981 MTV was launched on August 1st in 1981. This channel was a music channel that was set up to promote local artists and for local audiences. Due to poplar demand the program relocated to Sky but only now onto to virgin media.

In 1983 Michael Jackson Thriller was created the video was played on MTV 3 times every hour a day. The music video was one of the longest music video by it being 13 minutes long. This music video was the first ever music video MTV aired and it has also been voted as the most influential music video in history and it being one of the most longest videos. This video started the whole of the pop culture off, it has been quoted as a
“culturally, historically or aesthetically” music video.

In 1985 VH1 was launched it was launched hoping it would be as successful as MTV. Unfortunately it didn't become as popular as
MTV but it is still a running channel today, it has only started to become popular since last year where it aired programs such as Behind the Music, I LoveCelebreality which has made the program popular due to the opposite purpose of it being created and aired.

In 2005 Itunes was launched it is a media player managed by Apple. The whole purpose of Itunes is to download music and videos. Itunes keeps a library of million of songs, iTunes is very popular in today's society due to the majority of people own a mac product and who use iTunes for their music, iTunes prevent copyright and illegal downloads due to the fact you have to pay for your songs or albums and videos.

In 2005
YouTube was launched it is probably the biggest thing that has happened to music history, YouTube has everyone genre of music videos available and also other videos. YouTube is a good way for promoting your music video because it can also be shared via other social networking websites to gain your audiences.
